I have been acutely aware of the fleeting nature of my childrens' childhood lately. Especially as it pertains to Christmas. I know there only a few more years where they will still believe, a few more years of magic and wonder. So we try to make as many memories during these times as we can. We've been listening to our favorite Christmas albums (Patty Loveless & Sufjan Stevens), and watching our favorite Christmas movies (Elf, Grinch & Prancer). Today we went to a nearby nursing home and saw Santa, a live reindeer and got to ride a "train". I enjoyed watching the residents reaction to the kids enjoying the Christmas festivities. You could tell it made their days to see the children's joy of the season.
After visiting Santa we headed to the tree farm to pick out and cut down a tree. It took us a while to find the right one, but the kids didn't mind as they were having fun (fighting over) pulling the cart. We didn't get our favorite species of "Christmas" tree (Frasier Fir, heavenly smell), this year as they were mostly gone except for the really tall ones, we were still pleased with our Scotch Pine. We visited stopped by with a quick visit with friends while we were in the area then headed home. We were too tired to decorate tonight so we will leave that till tomorrow. It's been a wonderful weekend of holiday memory making....this is what families are all about! Hope you are making lots of wonderful memories with the ones you love!
